The 2025 Asian Mini Football Championship in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, wasn’t just about crowning a continental champion — it marked a major stepping stone on the road to the WMF World Cup 2025 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
In front of passionate crowds and a rising tide of interest across the continent, Iran emerged victorious, lifting their first-ever Asian minifootball title. But more than the trophy, the tournament served as a crucial testing ground for multiple teams heading to Baku later this year.
Among the standout participants were Iran, Indonesia, Thailand and India — all of whom have already confirmed their spots at the WMF World Cup. Their performances in Sharjah weren’t just a display of skill and grit, but a clear signal that Asian teams will not be heading to Baku just to make up the numbers.
As the countdown to Baku continues, the message from Sharjah is clear: Asia is ready, confident, and coming to compete.
In the semifinals, Iran edged past the UAE with a 2–1 victory, while Oman defeated Iraq 3–2 in a closely contested match. The final saw Iran's cohesive play overpower Oman, leading to a 3–1 win and their maiden championship title.
